Fabulous Funnybones

We have had a fantastic week.  On Tuesday we got to perform the skeleton dance which we have been practising for the last four weeks.  We went on the minibus to Ulverston Victoria High School and rehearsed with children from other primary schools and students from the high school.  Then we got into our costumes for the show.  It was exciting to perform our dance on a stage in front of a big audience.

Well done KS1 you were brilliant!

Super Smoothies

Dave has been into school to do food technology with us again, this time we made delicious smoothies. There were all sorts of lovely fruit and herbs to use – strawberries, raspberries, banana, orange, pineapple, blueberries, basil and peppermint – they smelled great!  We tasted some of the smoothies as we made them and tried some at lunchtime.

Cookery fun

We have been lucky, this week, to have Dave the chef come and do some cooking with us.  He showed us how to make flapjack and we had the chance to weigh ingredients, pour, mix and (best of all) eat!  We can’t wait to do some more cooking with him next week.

Dance Platform

Today we had our first rehearsal for ‘Dance Platform’. Lucy came into school to begin to choreograph the dance which has a theme of ‘Skeletons’.  We had a brilliant time learning the dance.

End of term

We have had a lovely couple of weeks leading up to Christmas; with our play ‘Hoodwinked’, nativity service at church, Christmas jumper day, Christmas lunch and class parties.  It has been lots of fun doing all these things as well as making decorations, party hats and Christmas cards.

Time

Children in Year 1 and 2 have been working hard on ‘time’ in maths over the last couple of weeks.  They have been thinking about what happens at different times of day and ordering events, learning to read times on analogue clocks and also in digital format. Year 2 children have also been telling the time to quarter to and past and beginning to look at 5 minute intervals.  They have completed some word problems thinking about how long something might take and what the new time would be.  Well done everybody!

Remembrance

As this year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1, the whole school walked up to the Lindale war memorial to pay their respects to those who fought in the first and second world wars.  We placed crosses and poppies on the monument as the names of soldiers from our area were read out.

After that we returned to school to continue our remembrance service with songs, poems and prayers.

During the week each child had made a felt poppy and these were added to a wall hanging to commemorate the occasion.

Into the woods

We have been on our first forest school session of the term.  While we were in the woods we had time to explore and look for interesting things around us, we climbed trees, went on an African animal hunt and played hide and seek.  We are looking forward to next Friday when we go again.

Multiskills

Year 2 children had a great time doing ‘Multiskills’ at Cartmel Priory School.  They worked really hard on balancing, throwing and catching skills, completing activities planned and led by the secondary school pupils.

A Sunny September Afternoon

Early Years and Key Stage One have enjoyed a lovely afternoon in the sunshine down at the park.  We played on the swings and climbing frames and explored around the trees to find acorns, conkers and pine cones.
