Awesome Adventures!

Today we had the most brilliant day.  We went to Castle Head Field Centre in the morning with Reception and learned about food chains, played fun chasing games, hunted for minibeasts and went on the ‘Low ropes’, it was a really fun morning.

Then after lunch we went in the minibus to Humphrey Head and had a really exciting time; climbing and scrambling over rocks, squeezing through tiny gaps and doing things we had never done before. It was challenging and a bit scary at times but we were all brave and did amazing climbing.  Mrs Law and Becky were very proud of us!

We returned to Castle Head for tea and then did some evening activities about nocturnal and diurnal animals.  A fantastic day, we can’t wait till we go again!

Castle Head Day

Today we spent the morning at Castle Head Field Centre.  We had lots of fun playing chasing games and finding out about food chains, learning that animals rely on plants and other animals for food.  We also hunted for minibeasts and had a brilliant time going on the ‘low ropes’.  It was an action-packed morning!

Forest School

This week at Forest School we found lots of leaves and seeds that had been blown down from the trees by the wind.  Mostly they were from sycamore and ash trees, we enjoyed collecting them and filling our pockets!

We had time to explore and find other interesting things, then we did a hunt for different nature pictures around the woods.  We searched for a snail, frog, hawthorn, celandine, ladybird, blue tit, rowan, hedgehog and tortoise shell butterfly and when we found them we ticked them off on our checklists.

Wonderful Water

This week in Reception and KS1 we have been doing some poetry work in Power of Reading.  One of the poems was about water so we have been thinking of where we find water, what we use it for and what sounds water can make.  KS1 children wrote water poems and Reception have explored water sounds and written poems using these ‘watery’ words.

The children have also been looking at artwork showing water and have had a go at using pastels and paints to create their own pictures.  Today in maths we worked on capacity; comparing which containers hold more/less than others and using water to measure.

Making pencil holders

Year 3 and 4 began work on their wooden pencil holders this afternoon. They sanded down their wooden block, used maths skills to mark out and then centre pointed where they will drill next week. We can’t wait to see the finished products!

Our chocolate creations!

Today we creating the chocolate bars that we invented! They were yummy too!

A rainy afternoon

Today we had a rainy afternoon in the woods.  Although it was wet we still had fun; exploring, finding interesting things, looking at and identifying different plants.

Our Royal Tea Party!

The sun was shining today for our Royal Wedding Tea Party! We even had some surprise guests turn up! Thank you so much for your donations of cakes and sandwiches. There were some really creative royal cakes! All the children looked fantastic in red, white and blue.

Investigating mass

This morning Reception and KS1 children were weighing in maths.  Older children were selecting objects, estimating weight in grams and then using balancing scales and weights to see what their mass actually was.   Y1 were trying to find items that weighed more than 1/4 kg, using scales to weigh each item and reception children were comparing weights of objects and balancing objects with cubes.

Well done children you worked really hard!

Making Mountains!

This afternoon, we were learning the features of mountains. We had great fun making our own mountains and volcanoes out of play-dough!
