Our curriculum sits under our vision statement, our motto ‘Let your light shine’ and our school values of Peace, Kindness, Trust and Perseverance. These are linked to our British values and helping the children to become active citizens ready to achieve, contribute and thrive in Modern Britain and the wider world.
Staff worked collaboratively to design a broad and balanced curriculum that is ambitious, coherent, rich and deep. Topics have been carefully sequenced between key stages as well as within years so that links between subjects and prior learning can be made and built upon. We are lucky to be situated in such a beautiful, rich area with a range of opportunities for learning experiences. Wherever appropriate, we link learning to our local context so that it is relevant for our pupils.
Each unit is carefully planned so that our pupils develop knowledge, skills, curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. It is important to us that our pupils develop a love for learning through engaging and challenging content. Developing vocabulary is a focus in all subjects and we provide our pupils with the skills and resources to use subject-specific vocabulary confidently and correctly.
We are proud of our inclusive approach throughout school. We want all our pupils to achieve their full potential. Subject leaders carefully consider pupils with additional needs and class teachers are confident when applying quality first teaching strategies and adapting the curriculum so that is it accessible to all pupils.
Encouraging independence and choice in learning begins in the Early Years and continues throughout school. Many of our opportunities are purposefully chosen to build character, preparing our pupils for adult life and becoming successful global citizens with a broad understanding of the world. Alongside curriculum content, we continue to develop the characteristics of effective learning throughout school. Our children understand that it is alright to make a mistake and are developing resilience in their learning.
At Lindale School, we aim to nurture and encourage passions and talents and help our pupils to find new ones through a range of experiences and opportunities that go above and beyond the National Curriculum. We have developed a rich and varied extra-curriculum through inviting specialists into school, seeking trips and fieldwork opportunities, utilising the experiences and talents of our local community and providing opportunities that many pupils may not otherwise experience. We consider every child and develop their uniqueness, often offering opportunities for children to share their passions and talents.
